Islay Bound

about

Islay Bound celebrates one of my favourite places in the world. Or more specifically - getting there.

There is something about the journey, leaving the remote parts of Argyll's Kintyre peninsula for this beautiful, rugged island on an unreliable weather-dependant ferry.

I have made a film to accompany this song which I may post on YouTube some time. Trouble is, it's full of such varied and strange imagery - all from one single crossing - that it's barely credible!

By buying my music, you are donating to Long Covid research, and helping support groups. All money you spend (net of basic costs) goes on to Long Covid causes. I appreciate your contribution. Thank you!

lyrics

The jetty’s grey and damp
Time to raise the ramp
Loosen all the stays
Ropes coiled on the deck
Seals and hold double checked
Leaving Kennacraig
Low light to the west
Way out to sea
Pass the Point, no time to rest
Pick up a little speed

The wind now in our face
We watch the waves
Give up on the Minke whale
Go get a golden dram
Tell tales of the sea and land
It’s coming up a gale
McArthur’s light flickers as it spins
Throwing shadows across the Sound
Oh these clouds, oh these hills
All these times I remember still
We’re Islay bound, Islay bound

Oh these clouds, oh these hills
All these times I remember still

Islay bound, Islay bound
Jewel in the sea
Open and free
Shine like a star

We’re Islay bound, Islay bound
Golden ways
Our dearest days
Held in our hearts

We’re Islay bound
We’re Islay bound
